Fishing for Bass

Fishing for Bass has its distinct attraction for many anglers all over Australia. The ripe conditions of increased water levels and air pressure of 1020hPa and 1025hPa, combined with the “cold snap” has made bass eager to take in the lure. This will surely excite anglers keen on catching some bass. The likelihood of capturing a 50cm bass or longer from the shore is just a lure away.

The big bass have been swimming their way into the newly denuded areas for some rich feeding.  Moreover, due to the recent “cold snap” has pushed the bass to seek warmer waters in the shallows and have left the deep cold waters. This is why it is easy to catch bass from the shore. The high air pressure has also contributed to these recent conditions and has made many bass take in the bite.

The most effective and popular lure are the Spinner baits. Many professional anglers specializing in bass fishing have shared some tips on the types of baits to use for different conditions. On cloudy days and murky waters, spinner baits in dark colors with black and red skirts and gold colored blades have been known to be effective. In sunny days with clear waters, silver blades and light colored skirts are the baits to use. A ¼ oz. to ¾ oz. spinner baits with double Colorado blades have been used with great rewards. This is because the double Colorado blades tend to sink less as compared with Willow leaf blades. You will not have to worry about retrieving the spinner bait before it sinks and gets tuck in weeds and grass. The double Colorado also produces more vibration, which easily attracts a fish. You can also use a Tadem Blade spinner which can emit vibrations from the Colorado blade while its willowleaf blade gives a flash. Just after you cast, let the lure sink then retrieve it at once just to check if the Bass are striking from the top or the bottom. Then attempt the slowest retrieval you can manage while making sure to keep the blades continue to spin.

If you prefer longer casting, hard cased deep diving lures like the jackels and kakodas are known to be very alluring for the fish. However, this product has been reported to dredge and gather weeds and grass particularly in swollen rivers as compared with spinner baits. Moreover, try different tactics like instead of casting right from the shore, cast from many sites crossing coves. To prevent missing your strikes, you can add a stinger hook to the spinner bait. You can make your bait highly tempting for the Bass by adding a tail or soft plastic to either one of the hooks or just simply the stinger hook.

If you are a beginner and easily get lost in the technical jargon of baits and lures, you can hire a fishing charter with an expert crew to help you with your equipments. They even provide your basic equipments for free as part of your package. If you cannot catch the Bass inshore, try one offshore with the aid of a good fishing charter.
